Chaff collector and bean contamination

Kaffelogic's chaff collector is designed to efficiently separate chaff (thin skin) and coffee beans generated during roasting, thanks to its unique radial airflow structure.

However, as roasting progresses and beans become darker, they lose moisture and become lighter, taking on properties similar to chaff.

Therefore, under the following conditions, some beans may move to the chaff collector side:

  • When the batch size is large
  • When roasting dark and fan speed is high

It's okay if beans are mixed with chaff

When roasting a dark and larger batch, it may appear that many beans are mixed in with the chaff.

But don't worry.

In most cases, these beans moved to the chaff collector during the cooling process, and
roasting is already complete.

There are no quality issues, so all that is needed is to separate the beans from the chaff.

How to separate chaff and beans

You can easily separate them using the following steps:

  1. Remove all beans from the roast chamber.
  2. Attach the chaff collector back into its original position.
  3. Return the contents of the chaff bowl (chaff + beans) to the roast chamber.
  4. Assemble the chaff collector.
  5. Press the "≡" button, then the "⏵" button, to start Fan preview.

Activating Fan preview will neatly separate the beans and chaff again.
